Russian science lost one of its greatest minds. On May 23, 2003, Yuri Ivanovich Lyubimov passed away, in his 78th year. He was a veteran of World War II, a retired major general, a professor, Doctor of Technical Science, USSR State Prize laureate, an author of more than 200 scientific papers and 28 copyright certificates for inventions, a developer of the unique military, space and biological technologies, a general director of the interdepartmental research and production complex LLC Biotehnical industry.
Yuri Lyubimov dedicated most of his life to the military and space industries. In Tver Military Industrial Institute of the Ministry of Defense, Yuri Lyubimov contributed to the development of sophisticated equipment implementing the newest achievements in fundamental sciences and advanced technologies. He was one of the country's leading experts in the field of automation, optomechanical systems and electronics. Yuri Lyubimov has made an invaluable contribution to the development of astronautics. He was a member of the Scientific and Technical Council of the Military-Industrial Commission, and a Head of the Scientific and Technical Committee of the Ministry of Defense. Since the end of the 80s, Yuri Lyubimov was engaged in the development and implementation of industrial technologies in the national economy, as well as in research in biology and biophysics.
Inspired by the meetings and conversations with academician Vladimir Filatov, who was a genius of Soviet medicine and biology, Yuri Lyubimov clearly understood the enduring value of his unique scientific discoveries. To practically implement the ideas of academician Filatov in Russia, Yuri Lyubimov became engaged in the development of industrial biotechnologies to produce biogenic stimulants. Professor Lyubimov and his colleagues made a significant contribution to the creation of fundamentally new biotechnologies of the future, widely known in Russia, the USA, Japan, Germany, Canada, China and other countries of the world.
The fundamental work of his scientific team was focused on the study and improvement of industrial technologies for the processing of biogenic stimulants using the latest achievements of modern Russian physics. The name of Professor Lyubimov symbolizes success of the practical application of the Russian latest fundamental scientific developments in domestic industrial market, and also the international significance of Russian science and industry. All his life, Professor Lyubimov lived and worked toward the well-being of the mankind. A bright memory of him will remain in the hearts of grateful people.
